Youthline has been delivering services in South Auckland from rented premises for the past 16 years. In 2009 the former Manukau City Council granted Youthline a thirty year lease of the iconic former Papatoetoe Fire Station and since then the building has been transformed into a vibrant community owned Youth, Family & Community Development Centre and a home for Youthline Manukau.
The centre will provide an enhanced local presence for Youthline in the heart of a community with one of the largest populations of young people in New Zealand. It will effectively double the capacity of Youthline to deliver services in South Auckland, enabling young people and their families to access clinical support services, employment skills training, youth development and leadership opportunities.
In addition this facility will provide a phone hub for the national 0800 Helpline and will be a base for up to sixty volunteers answering up to 47,000 calls and texts annually on our helpline service. The centre will be home to a number of other community organisations and a new café, Thyme Out at the Station, which opened in November 2011.
The Youthline Manukau Centre has a diverse space and our service delivery model includes a range of social enterprise projects. The main project is the development of our community café and training facility for young people, alongside a connected computer space, youth art gallery, training programme rooms and a youth radio station/recording studio.
Our Youthline Manukau Team moved into the centre in September 2011 and have been delivering essential services from this base while the remaining construction and site works continue.
We still require further funds to complete the development and for just $200 you can purchase a brick engraved with your name and be part of this essential community development project. This brick will be part of a pathway at the entrance of the centre to recognise the support given to us by the local community.

We could not have achieved the success of this project without a number of other valued supporters, who will also be recognised within the centre.
