Find out how you can volunteer in Palmerston North!

Thanks for your interest in volunteer work for Youthline Palmerston North.  We offer volunteer work in 3 aspects.  Firstly we have our phone helpline, secondly volunteer work in our afterschool programme and lastly voulunteer work with our events and promotion team.

Phone Helpline:

To become a volunteer on the phone helpline you first need to complete basic counseling training in Basic Counseling skills including training on youth issues.  Completing training will enable you to become a phone counselor for our Youth Helpline.  We require you to attend all of the training, to ensure you are well equipped to manage the calls you receive from the Helpline.
Your commitment to Youthline requires you to stay with Youthline for at least 1 year, to cover 2 telephone duties a month and to attend compulsory monthly supervision/trainings.
We aim to provide a professional and a high standard of training for our telephone counsellors; therefore we contract a professional Counsellor to facilitate the training program.   The bulk of the training cost is covered by grants, however there is a short fall, therefore we ask for a $80.00 registration for the Basic Training however if you are unable to meet this financial commitment, please let me know and some other arrangement can be made.
I know if you decide to become a volunteer you will gain a great deal of satisfaction and develop new skills that often forms a solid base for future careers in counselling and related fields which is widely known and respected in the community.  The training also looks great on your CV to employers.

What better place to volunteer then with the events and promotion team.  Sometimes it’s difficult to find the time to dedicate to volunteer work.  With the events and promotion team you can give back to the community and get behind a great cause with the time you do have.
